Three Rivers Public Health Department is celebrating Veteran’s Day by sending cards of thanks to service members and veterans. Staff at Three Rivers wrote 15 cards to be sent to service members overseas and at home. A program called A Million Thanks will send the letters of support and encouragement straight to past and present military members. “Sending thank you cards is a simple, yet meaningful way for our health department to honor our military members on Veteran’s Day,” says Karmen Dickes the VetSET coordinator for Three Rivers.
Three Rivers VetSET project is aimed at connecting veterans, military members, and their families in rural Nebraska to support services within the community. Regardless of where or how they serve, veterans and their families return home different from when they left. That is why we have to intentionally collaborate as a community to fill the gaps in services. Any veteran, military member, or family member is encouraged to contact Three Rivers to learn more about the VetSET project. “At the Three Rivers we are honoring our veterans, not just on Veteran’s Day, but every day by helping them connect to services and organizations within their own community,” says Dickes.
