National Walk to School Day

Author: SuperUser Account/Tuesday, January 12, 2016/Categories: Uncategorized

Wednesday October 7th, 2015 is National Walk to School Day, will you be participating? Join the national movement of over 4,000 students, teachers, and communities who are starting their day with a walk to school. National Walk to School Day is expected to include events across all 50 states.

Three Rivers Public Health Department helps promote this event at local schools, and is proud to support an event that emphasizes the importance of increasing physical activity. Studies show physically active kids perform better academically; meaning healthy bodies equal brighter minds.

Physical activity is important, but there are many reasons to walk to school. Walk to school events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling, promote pedestrian safety, decrease traffic congestion, shows concern for the environment, and builds connections between families, schools, and the broader community.

If you live too far from school to walk, try driving half the distance, then park and walk the rest of the way.  Celebrate National School Day and help improve your community’s health and safety.
